Have you ever found yourself sitting down to watch one or two episodes of a TV show just to realize hours later that you’ve finished almost a whole season? Same. When I’m watching a TV show, I find myself immersed in the world of the show and I have to know what’s going to happen next so I just let Netflix play the next episode. I’ve watched so many shows over the years – some even through twice – so it’s hard for me to choose just one favorite. But since I love watching shows, I decided to start a blog post series of TV shows to watch! This week’s post is all about Girl Power because each of the following shows features strong female leads! Happy Binge Watching!
Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl follows the lives of privileged teenagers on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. A mysterious blogger, known as Gossip Girl, reveals secrets and scandals about them.
If you LOVE drama, this show is chock-full of it. Blair and Serena are the IT girls of the Upper East Side and I personally think they were the leading characters in the show even though it has an ensemble cast. Both ladies are strong and go for what they want and I think that deserves to be admired. Parts of the show are somewhat unrealistic but hey that’s what makes it so fun to watch! There are so many story lines in its’ 6 seasons so you’re always on the edge of your seat. And if it’s the first time you’re watching the series, it’s fun to try to figure out the identity of Gossip Girl.
Hart Of Dixie
New York doctor Zoe Hart has reached a crossroads in her life when she decides to accept an offer from a stranger to work with him at his practice in Alabama. When she arrives in town, she discovers that the man has died and left her his half of the practice in his will, something that doesn’t exactly make her new partner happy. Despite the shock of Southern life and some less-than-hospitable town folk, Zoe decides to give her new life a chance and discovers a new side of herself in the process.
There is SO much to love about this show! It’s set in a small town so the visuals in the show are just so beautiful! It’s such a sweet and charming show! Zoe is dedicated to become a doctor like her dad which is what takes her from living in a big city to a small town. She’s ambitious and fierce. Also, if you LOVE a good love story like me, then you’ll love the relationship between Zoe and Wade. They are one of my top favorite TV couples ever! I was so disappointed when the show was cancelled because it’s sweet and unique compared to all the other shows out there, however there are 4 seasons for your viewing pleasure!
Jane The Virgin
Jane Villanueva, a working, religious young virgin, becomes pregnant after accidentally being artificially inseminated.
This show is SO funny and it’s so cleverly written! Inspired by telenovelas, there’s so much drama, a lot of emotion, and many unexpected twists. Jane is resilient. She takes what life gives her, good and bad, and continues on with class and poise. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. But most importantly you’ll enjoy it. Trust me. There are 3 seasons on Netflix and the 4th season is currently airing on The CW.
Pretty Little Liars
Four friends band together against an anonymous foe who threatens to reveal their darkest secrets, while also investigating the disappearance of their best friend.
This show is the epitome of a mystery. You spend 7 seasons trying to figure out who A is, coming up with theory after theory for each character. The strongest part of the show in my opinion is the friendship between Hanna, Aria, Emily, and Spencer. No matter what happens to them, they can overcome anything with each other by their side. The girls are determined, intelligent, and take charge in finding out the identity of A.
Gilmore Girls
A dramedy centering around the relationship between a thirtysomething single mother and her teen daughter living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
Gilmore Girls is such a feel good show. It revolves around the relationship between Lorelai and Rory, who aren’t just mother and daughter but also best friends. Lorelai is a self-made woman who worked hard to take of her daughter alone. Rory is determined, intelligent, and hardworking. The two are great on their own but they’re even better together. I was excited when the 4 part revival was announced, but now I’m hoping there’s more to come because I need answers after that ending!
If you’ve seen any of these shows, what do you think of them? If you haven’t seen any of them, which one or ones are you putting on your favorite list to watch next? Let me know below!
Thanks for stopping by!

I watched it a few years ago and I’m currently rewatching it and I’m on the last season so I’m already feeling the Gossip Girl withdrawal!

I love Netflix! I love that they have these shows with female leads, I’m not a fan of them though! I’m more of a Criminal minds and Black list kinda person! I do love Greys Anatomy which have a lot of female leads 🙂
