Life seems to get crazier and crazier every day. Whether you’re a college student, parent, or you’re always working, life forces you to be on the go all day long. With sugary temptations lurking around every corner, making healthy snack choices can be hard. However, the key to avoiding binge eating is staying fed throughout the day, and it’s no secret that whole food options are much more likely to fill you up than most pre-packaged treats. Today, I’m excited to share some tips with you to help you make smart choices when it comes to snacking on the go!
Pack Your Bag With Healthy Snacks
Leave your house with plenty of healthy options on hand! Try including many different types of snacks to satisfy any craving, from peanut butter dark chocolate granola bars to crunchy bagged popcorn.
Choose Whole Grains
Read the labels of your pre-packaged snacks to ensure one of the first three ingredients is a whole grain. Whole grains include nutrients and vitamins that other grains strip out, ensuring you get the most out of your snack as possible.
Buy In Bulk & Separate Out Portions
After you get home from the grocery store, open up your snacks and split single portion sizes out into Ziploc bags or small containers. This will help you to avoid overeating, save you money by buying in bulk, and provide you with something that’s easy to grab on those mornings when you are running late.
Focus On Protein Intake
The best snacks consist of a carbohydrate, such as a fruit, vegetable, or whole grain along with a protein such as nut butter or yogurt. Protein helps keep you full longer and keeps your blood sugar stable.
Shop Smart For Whole Foods
Shopping the outside aisles of the grocery store is a good rule of thumb for finding whole foods. These areas hold the produce, deli, and dairy, while keeping you away from tempting snacks like chips, crackers, and sweets.
Have A Snack Schedule
Start your day knowing exactly when you plan to eat your snacks. Not only does it ensure you’ll stay full throughout the day but it also gives you a little something to look forward to every hour or so, making you less likely to seek out unhealthy options.
Next time you find yourself shopping for snacks or preparing to leave the house, keep these tips in mind to make smart snacking choices! This little extra thought could be just what you need to make your day go smoother and help you make healthy snack choices!
How will you try to incorporate these tips into your busy life? Let me know below!

I love this post! I always find this is so much easier to do when you get into a routine and when the weather is warmer, you want to eat lighter foods and more fruits anyway. I really need to get back To doing something like this xx

This was such a helpful post as I’m trying to improve my diet at the minute! I definitely agree with buying in bulk and then separating into little containers especially with things like the low calorie popcorn as a large bag is only a little more expensive than the individual ones and you can get at least 4 portions out of them!

I cannot go without snacking – I try to have one snack two hours before a big meal so I’m not too full that I won’t eat the main meal, but not that I start to feel too hungry and sick! I like cereal bars or fruit, but sometimes there is the occasional bit of chocolate!

Great post which I really need to take heed of! I’m a busy parent and always on the go and despite giving the kids healthy snacks I’m terrible for snacking on the wrong kinds of foods. I’m going away in june for a friends b day and need to drop a few pounds so bookmarking this post as a reminder to snack healthy!
